Handsewn Kilts by Robertson Kiltmakers

Our bespoke, made-to-measure kilts are hand-sewn in the Scottish Borders by Kate Robertson.
Kate uses traditional techniques to design and sew your kilt; applying her passion, great care, and attention to detail in creating shaping in both the pleats and aprons.

Each adult kilt is made from a minimum of 8 yards of 100% wool tartan - as is traditional. The tartan cloth is woven by leading Scottish mills producing exceptional quality tartans and tweeds, some very local to us in the Scottish Borders!

These things combined ensures your kilt is well fitted to your body shape and size, is of the highest quality and made to last.

2. Confirming your order

If possible, we'll arrange to meet you to discuss the design and customisation of your kilt; if not, we'll send you some suggestions and guidance on taking your measurements accurately.

Once you are happy with your order details, we'll send you a quote and indication of timescale.

At this stage we will ask you to confirm your order with a deposit.  Your deposit secures your place in the queue.

3. Made to measure

We'll keep you updated throughout the order process and provide updates on progress with making your bespoke, hand-sewn kilt. We'll even send you some photos if you can't wait to see it!

How much does a kilt cost?

The cost of your kilt depends on many things, such as:
- your chosen cloth (whether it's a standard, rare or exclusive tartan, or tweed)

- the length of cloth needed to make your kilt

- whether you choose a medium weight or heavy weight cloth

- which straps and buckles you choose.

To give you an indication, though, an 8-yard standard tartan kilt is priced from £600.

Please get in touch and we'll be more than happy to provide you with a quote.
